We turn the page past New Years and basketball turns towards conference games, MORE close games, games across state, some tournaments…
It’s always fun to compete against teams from different parts of the state or other states. We saw some of that this week.
…Jennings Warriors (St Louis) tripped up the Jackson Indians(Cape area) 57-49.
…Vashon Wolverines 76-71 win over Raleigh Egypt was another sound win for first year coach, Anthony Bonners’ squad.
…Tournament action in Joplin saw Webster Groves win the championship with a 65-36 stroll over the Webb City Cardinals while the Howell Vikings edged Blue Springs 60-57 for 3rd place.
…In girls action, Marion Catholic(#1 ranked team of Chicago) handled the St Joe Angels 54-39. Hear that complete replay on www.prepcasts.com
…Helias girls (7-6) traveled to KC and split two games. Winning Friday over St Theresa’s 48-45 and losing the the ND deSion (2nd place team in STATE last year) 39-29
…Lee Summit girls record remained unblemished after stopping the Lady Statesman of Webster Groves (10-3) 65-52.

…Hickman Kewpies (8-5) rode the last second FT of Josh Elam to a 56-55 win over Quincy(7-7)
…Parkway South Lady Patriots hung onto for a 52-51 win over visiting Blue Springs South.
…The tip in at the buzzer by Cruz Arcevedo pushed Bunceton into a 50-48 win over Douglas.
…Brandon Muse drew a charging foul with 19 seconds remaining to ice the 52-51 Westran victory over Sweet Springs.
…Parkway North Vikings had 5 players in double figures as they bested Eureka 70-69
…Brittany Newman scored a basket to send game into OT with only a 3 ticks left on the clock and then canned a couple 3-balls to lead the E.Newton Patriots past McDonald County 44-40
…102-97 was on the scoreboard when the dust cleared after this shootout. The Crocker Lions ran to this exciting win over the N. Bloomfield Wildcats. How would you like to score 97 and lose ?
…Matt Walters fade away J at the buzzer gave the Harrison Gobblins a 52-51 win over the Morrilton Devil Dogs in 5A West Action.
Tournament results…
…Mid-Lakes Tournament had a great Championship night. The Title was won by the Marionville Comets (9-3) over the Strafford Indians 31-29 in a real defensive tussle. Meanwhile the 3rd place game was another great game as Skyline (5-5) squeaked by Ash Grove (3-7) 44-42.
… Nixa Girls won the Lady Tigers Classic in Carthage over the host school 65-54.
…Lincoln (6-7) upset state ranked Tuscombia Lions 51-44 to grab the Otterville Championship.
Good news….
..Tahnee Poe tore her ACL last summer and returned this week far ahead of doctor’s predictions to lead Schulyer past Novinger 49-38. Tahnee dropped in 17 points on her return !! Great !
