It was going to easy...Eureka Wildcats
"had their way" in the first half and led Parkway West 14-0in
this battle of the unbeatens. Suddenly, it happened! That ONE
big play that changes momentum, energy levels and clearly
the scoreboard. In the 3rd quarter Josh Nunn picked one off for
a 32 yard TD for the Longhorns. THAT changed things! West hit a
FG to tighten the score then Tyler Gabbert throw a laser TD
strike off a scramble to put the Longhorns on top at the 3
minute mark. Eureka rallies, kicks a FG to tie it with just 13
seconds. In OT, Eureka is unable to score and West turns it over
to kicker Drew O'Connell for the 26 yard FG to win the
game.
Biggest surprise teams? Look to

Different tales...different
reactions...same results... the Union Wildcats(#4, 5-0) sent
a LOUD, STRONG message to Missouri with their 48-3 dismantling
of #5 Helias. Union scored on their first 6 possessions on long
drives of
75, 71, 73,
77, 46 and 77 yards! It was 41-3 at half. All-State QB, Jordan
Webb was 16 of 17 for 299 and 4 scores in the route. Meanwhile
in a totally different way, the Normandy Vikings post a 5-0
record very quietly and practically unnoticed. The Vikings
upended Ladue this week and are positioning themselves for a
post-season run. More 5-0 team reactions to

Let the sleeping dog alone....all
coaches preach it. After dominating the first half and leading
14-0 with two long offensive drives to their credit against the
Mehlville Panthers, some of the Kirkwood Pioneers "expressed
some feelings" to the Panthers as each team returned to the
field for the 2nd half. Mehlville awoke instantly! An opening TD
drive began the rally. However, it wasn't until the 2:00 mark
that Aaron Alexander blocked a punt for the Panthers on the 5
yard line. Justin Talley scored on the first play to give
Mehlville it's 4th win 21-17.
It goes back...way, way back. Kelly
Donaohue and Tom Kruse faced each other on the field as high
school players. They took recruiting trips together...went
different paths in college (Donohue-KU, Kruse-NW MO State). Each
landed in a premier coaching spot in MO. Donahue took the reins
at Blue Springs and Kruse the Ray-Pec Panthers. They still do
summer camps together, social engagements, etc. Well, that
all went out the window for a couple hours on Friday as the Blue
Spring Wildcats outlasted the Panthers 28-21 in a tremendous
football game between two really outstanding football teams. It
can be done...friends -- yet rivals !
Stats don't win games! SLUH
passed for 300+ yards, 4 touchdowns but it wasn't
enough against the long-time rival, the CBC Cadets.
CBC, using approximately 45 carries of Sr. Rod Alton as he
scored 4 touchdowns in a 31-29 win. SLUH scored very late in
the game, recovered the onsides but couldn't get close
enough to give their kicker a chance to win it.
Some eyebrows were raised when the
Trinity Titans knocked off the St Dominic Crusadors 54-34 in
AAA Conference action. Marquise Hill of the Titans scored 6
touchdowns in the win with three long monster TD's of 50+
yards. St Dom was 3-1 while Trinity was 1-3 entering the
game....that's why we play the game!
The Riverton Rams never attempted a
pass as they steam rolled past St-Marys Colgon 42-22.
The Rams(4-0) rumbled for 452 yards as the Colgon team
suffered their first loss in 57 conference games dating back
to 1999!
A 50 minute first period....boy...most
would be looking at their watches wondering if they'd make
it home by midnight with that type of start! The Carthage
Tigers (5-0) galloped to a 28-6 first quarter lead against
Neosho as QB Trey
Derryberry led the way. He
finished 14-of-19 for 344 yards and 3 TD strikes in the
55-27 romp for the Tigers.
