31 years ago--1977, Haz West
upended Haz East on the football field! It finally happened
again on Saturday as the Wildcats crunched the Spartans 28-14.
Coach Keith Herring used 267 rushing yards coupled with a 7 of
10 passing performance by Devon Brun and 7 of 10, 3rd down
conversions to do the trick in this huge Suburban North contest.
Wildcat fans tell me how it felt at

Think about, where were YOU 31 years ago ?
Ozark and its scrambling quarterback Jordan Nuckolls put a real
scare into unbeaten Webb City Cardinals. Nuckolls was 36 of 60
for 392 yards but it wasn't enough to overtake the #3 ranked
class 4 team. Webb City (4-0) won 41-26 after a quick 21-0 first
quarter lead evaporated as Nuckolls was red hot in the 2nd
quarter. Are the Cardinals Dome bound ?

Hickman knew it was coming. They
installed a 5 man defensive front, talked all week about him,
planned to ways to slow him down, used some offensive gadget
plays early to "throw off the opposition"-- but.... it didn't
matter. Montee Ball, Timberland (4-0), pranced for 3 TD's and
210 yards as the Wolves toppled the Kewpies 34-9. Fans, your
thoughts on Montee..to...

Two errant punt snaps into the end
zone put the Thunderbirds of N. Calloway made the scoreboard
look very weird! It read 4-0 Hallsville. Folks....I have
NEVER seen that football score at one time on the scoreboard ?
Have any of you ? Anyway...the Thunderbirds snapping
improved and so did their play (after falling behind 11-0) as
they went on to whip Hallsville 21-18 in Kingdom City. This game
saw 300 penalty yards...ugh. Any other unusual scores out there,
how about this game...send me your thoughts to

In games that featured
unbeaten teams...
Vianney outscored Washington 49-35
in a battle of the unbeatens this week. The Golden Griffins used
5 1st half turnovers, 3 TD receptions from James Gladstone and 3
rushing TD's from Chris Starkey to win this entertaining, wild
scoring affair. How will the DeSmet-Vianney game go this week?

Hannibal scored early and often to
build a 28-14 first half lead and knock the Fulton Hornets from
the unbeaten ranks with a convincing 49-21 victory.
Eureka kept pounding away
throughout the contest. Coach Ferrell Shelton turned back to a
familiar theme as he instructed his Wildcats to run, run and run
some more. They racked up 526 rushing yards on 62 carries in a
46-21 win over the Parkway North Vikings !! Walter Williams,
alone, carried it 32 times for 319 yards and FIVE touchdowns.
Thoughts from fans of both teams.

Wins are always good-- according
to most coaches. But, some wins carry some baggage with
them. After toppling #1 Rockhurst last week, I suppose it
was natural to expect a "let down" from the new #1 ranked,
Class 6 school -- Blue Springs Wildcats. Sure enough, a
plethora of penalties, shaggy special teams play and a
little less energy were on the table but Blue Springs(4-0)
handled Lee Summit (1-3) 37-21.
Darrian Miller scored three
touchdowns and a key goal line stand were some of the
Wildcat highlights. Blue Springs takes on Ray-Pec next week
!!
Maybe looks do matter? Lawrence Maroney (NE Patriots)
recently donated new uniforms to his alma-mater, the
Normandy Vikings. Clad in the new unies, the Vikings went
4-0 with a strong 37-0 shutout over traditionally tough, the
Festus Tigers. Maybe...since Maroney is a star NFL running
back for NE, the Vikings followed him as a role model as they
rushed for 251 yards (now have 1244 for the season) in the
win.
Last year, the scoreboard and statisticians were completely
exhausted after the wild Union win
over Herman 77-55. Many expected the same this year.
Not
so... the Union Wildcats dominated. Using a vastly improved
defense, Jordan Webb tossing the ball all over the place, a
steady run game and Malcolm Stanley crossing the goal line 6
times, it wasn't close this year. Union wins 55-8 over the
Bobcats.
West Platte QB Ryan Humes probably slept very well on Friday
night. He led his Bluejays to a 40-18 win over Cass-Midway.
How about this night...9 of 19 passing, 191 yards for 3 TD
with his arm. With his legs, Humes ran 34 times for 265
yards-- 456 total yards for Humes for the night !!
Many great games on
www.prepcasts.com this week. We have our usual
full-plate schedule of 5 football games on Friday, a classis
Softball matchup, two of the top 5 volleyball teams facing
each other. Check it out...LIVE or later on Prepcasts.
