This will get it going... the best
baseball conference in the STATE from top to bottom is the
Gateway Conference-South Division! Not one team is
below .500, overall 51-16 accumulative record, two teams
have only 1 loss. Check out these records: Ft Z South
9-1,Troy 8-1, Ft Z West 9-2, Howell North 8-3, Howell 7-4,
Howell Central & Holt are each 5-3 !! League competition
will soften some of these records but who can match it from
the bottom to the top...we'll keep looking around. Your
ideas ?

In games between equally matched teams,
one "big" inning can determine the outcome. The strong teams
capitalize to the "max" on these opportunities to score
several times. For example, Plattsburg (4-0) remained
unblemished as they plated all 4 runs in an inning in their
4-3 win over E.Buchanon. Likewise, Chillicothe scored 4 runs
in the 3rd inning to raise their mark to 7-1 with a 6-5 win
over Higginsville. Jacob Rockhold led the way offensively
with 2 hits and 2 RBI's.
Pitching gems--goose-egg games (lots of
zeroes on the board) of the week..
Maryville Spoofhounds led the way with a
sharp 1-0 whitewash over Cameron. Out hit 4-2, Maryville
scored the lone run of the game in the 3rd inning.
Another "goose-egg" game saw the SLUH Jr
Bills edge DeSmet 3-2 in MCC conference play. The Jr Bills
bunched all 3 of their runs together in one inning (See
paragraph above) to grab the win.
Troy shutout St Charles West 4-0 earlier
in the week. Kyle Frantz hurled the 4 hit shutout with 4 K's.
BEST RALLY GAME OF THE WEEK belongs to
the Parkway North Vikings. In a game with Webster Groves,
the game see-sawed back and forth in the early going. It was
4-0 WG after 2 innings; 8-6 North after 4 innings; it was
12-9 WG after 6 innings. Exploding wildly in the 7th, the
Vikings crossed the plate 8 times to walk off with a 17-13
win. Culver Plant of North was the hitting star with a
3 of 5, 8 RBI's a double and HR ! Whew...a week of hitting
in one day !
There were several other football-like
scores this week.
At the top of the list was the FT Zumwalt
West game with Washington. Ft Z West
25 Washington 12. The Jaguars banged out 20
hits! 13 different players recorded hits in this contest.
The Jags raised their record to 9-2 with the win.
Another wild one was
Northwest 16 Lindbergh 15 in 10
innings! A grand total of 41 hits rang around the ballpark
during this ballgame. Two players from each team had 4
hits-- for NW, it was Lucas Fortner & Ryan Wilkenson. The
Flyers 4-hit batsman were Bryan Livingston & Joe Francis.
The winning pitcher for the Lions gave up 8 runs in 4
innings but notched the win.
Lindbergh
wasn't through hitting the ball all over the field or
through with extra inning games for the week. They
beat Eureka 12-11 earlier in
the week. Logan Parsons, the starting pitcher, led the way
with 3 hits for the Flyers. Richie Rhodes had 3 hits
and 3 SB to lead the Wildcats in this 8 inning affair.
TEAMS THAT ARE
RED HOT during this
chilly, wet week of baseball were:
CBC Cadets(7-1) who have won 6
straight including an impressive win over Howell North;
Parkway South (5-0) who knocked
off Kirkwood and were rained out against CBC on Thursday;
Highland (4-1) after their 5-0
shutout victory against Wesclin (7-2);
Edwardsville (6-0) who hasn't been held under 10 runs
in any of their games this year. Their latest win was a
sound 10-3 win over Vianney prior to the rains moving in the
area.
