As the season winds down, some teams begin
counting the days remaining while some start to "catch their 2nd
wind". Take a look around the STATE. There were several very
close games, some upsets, some unusual twists.
The Rock Bridge Bruins (21-1) perfect
season went up in smoke this week. The visiting Springfield
Central (22-2) fell behind early as the Bruins knocked down
their first 8 shots of the ballgame and opened up a 8 point
bulge. The Bruins still led by 10 midway in 3rd 44-34. Foul
trouble inside for RB led to several hard-earned buckets inside
for Central as they ran off a 14 point run to take a lead into
final quarter. It was far from over as the Bruins regained the
lead 59-57 at 2:08 mark. The lead changed hands 5 times back and
forth in a game that had the fans going crazy. Ricky Krekow's FT
gave the Bruins a 65-64 lead with only 8 ticks left. Jerome
Small raced into the front court eluding several defenders on
the dribble, found an open team mate. Marquise Martin's 3 point
attempt nicked the rim but Small, crashing the boards, laid in
the put-back for the winner!
Will we have a new #1 in class 5 now ? what
do you think ?

Another stunning upset in the Blue Springs
district! Blue Springs South (6-16) knocked off
intra-district rival, Blue Springs(11-12) 66-61. BSS used late
free throws by Brock Marlborough and Brando Murillo to lead the
way in front of a packed-house. How about it Blue Springs fans,
your thoughts ?

Usually when a team gets shut out in the
first quarter, you can look towards a running clock
situation. Not so at JFK High Girls Game this week. JFK(8-11)
led 7-zip over Cardinal Ritter Prep(12-4) after 1 quarter. The
Lions woke up in the 3rd as they outscored the Celts 17-2 and
went on to a 44-38 win in a AAA conference win.
In an upset on the girls side, Webster
Groves(10-13) went Two overtime periods and outlasted the
Eureka Wildcats(16-6) 56-55 on Friday night. As usual the
difference in close games was at the line-WG was 14 of 27 while
Eureka 7 of 16.
The biggest upset of the night
probably belonged to the Ladue Rams. Ladue (6-14) went OT to
shock the Clayton Greyhounds(18-6) 76-68. Devonte Bell went for
36 in the loss for the Greyhounds who were without Syd Warner in
the contest.
ustin Clark was a one-man wrecking
crew on Friday. His highly favored Wm Chrisman
team(16-9) was struggling and behind by a point against
Winnetonka with 3 min until the half time mark. Clark took
over the game, scored 10 straight points (and 17 in the
quarter) and provided the catalyst for the Bears to "right
their ship". Wm Chrisman went on to a 70-51 victory. The win
gives the Bears a share of the Suburban Six Crown, an honor
that they haven't enjoyed since the 2000-01 season.
Last second heroics and near misses
were all over the state. Katie Hogan scored a buzzer
beater that propelled Scott City Girls to a thrilling
43-42 win over Saxony Lutheran. Hogan hung up a
double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds in the win. At
Crystal City, the host school held their breath as a
possible game 3 point game winner rimmed out at the buzzer.
As a result the Hornets walked off with a 53-51 win over St.
Vincents in boys play.Lance Cannon scored 20 in the Hornet
win. After the Iberia Rangers scored a fast break
basket to grab a 75-73 lead with only 5 seconds left, the
Newburg Wolves hustled down the court, made a crisp pass but
the layup attempt rolled out as the did the chances of
winning this Frisco League game that was tight from start to
end! Parkway West Lady Longhorns (8-15)had a big 4th quarter
to rally for a 50-48 win over the Summit Falcons (14-8).
Maggie Wenstrup scored 13 for the victors who outscored the
Falcons 19-13 in the Final quarter. Hear the entire replay

One of the best kept secrets is on the
Bayless Broncos Girls Team. While the Broncos have
struggled with a 5-14 mark, the offensive leader is Jenny
Tenholder. The 5-10 Senior scored 35 in the Bayless win over
Hancock 58-54. She is shooting over 50% from beyond the arc,
averages 17.7 ppg, leads the team in scoring, rebounding,
steals, blocked shots, 2nd in assists.
Meanwhile, Parkway North Lady Vikings
cracked the 20 win barrier as they beat Seckman 49-27.
Congrats to the Lady VIkes who are now 20-2!
