A pair of pitching aces dominated again this week.

...Jacob Turner, who some have pointed towards a first round choice of MLB, went the distance as he whitewashed DuBourg 5-0. Turner gave up only 2 hits while striking out 14 Cavaliers. ....Ryan Austin, Hume HS Ace, hurled a no-no this week. Austin had to go 8 innings with his no hitter to gain a 2-0 victory as the Hume Hornets edged the Archie Whirlwinds. Austin has 86 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings of pitching in 2009 ! Oh by the way, guess who drove home the game winner in the 8th...Austin !

Other pitching performances that were winning hands

....Landon Jarrett led the Mansfield Lions (10-4) past the Ava Bears 2-1. Jarrett rang up 9 K's and reached base safely three times in the win.

...Alex Piontek led the Borgia Knights gave up only 4 hits in 6 very strong innings as they upset Sullivan (10-5) the #1 seed of the upcoming District Tournament to a 9-1 win. Borgia ( 9-4) seeded 5th in the District, playing much better in the last 2 weeks,  used the big bat of Phil Landwehr (who went yard) to lead the way.

...Grant Gordon (Salem) shackled the potent Rolla Bulldog offense with only 2 hits in a 7-1 win for the Tigers. Rolla ranked #2 in STATE polls fell to 19-4 for the season. Salem, meanwhile, raises their mark to 16-2 for 2009. This thrilling game was 1-1 going into the 7th when Salem broke it open with a 6 run burst.

...David Horridge twirled a 3-hitter in leading Festus past Crystal City 4-0 in Jefferson County action.

...Lutheran St-Charles (11-13) rode the arm of Soph Austin Klein to a  3-0 win over Bowling Green. Klein had 14 strikeouts to his credit in the complete game win.

SHOCKER OF THE WEEK...

Waynesville Tigers (2-17) sent Kevin Jones (Soph) out to face the touch Owensville Dutchmen (16-6). Jones, in his first start of the year, gave up 2 runs in the 1st inning. Settling down, Jones went the entire distance as the Tigers upset the Dutchmen 5-2 !!

We love these WALK-OFF stories....

Brett Thomas (Oak Ridge) blasted a 2 run-HR in the bottom  of the 9th inning to hand Oak Ridge a 3-1 win over Delta HS. Thomas, who pitched the final 3 innings to notch the victory, helped the Bluejays raise their record to 10-6.

Some great games around the STATE this week....

...trailing 3-1 entering the 7th to the #3 ranked class 2 team, Clearwater, the Kelly Hawks (9-9) came alive!  Kelly pushed across 2 runs in the 7th and the game winner in the 8th to hang up the upset.

..if  you like hits, Webster Groves-Mehlville game was for you. 29 hits were smashed around the field in this 8 inning tilt. WG who scored 2 runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings scored the game winner in the 8th to win 8-7 over the Panthers. Brett Grempler was 4 of 4 in the losing cause.

...it took 12 innings to decide the winner in the Republic-Monnet (11-5)  game.  It was tied 3-3 after 7 innings. Monnet's 11th inning run in the top half of the 11th was matched by Republic. After fighting back to stay alive, Republic scored the winning unearned run in the 12th to notch the win.

...it was a strange set of numbers in the Parkway South -Eureka game. Of the 14 half innings in the game, 10 were zeroes. But the other 4 half innings were loaded with action. Eureka scored 4 runs in one inning and 2 in the other. However, the Patriots bunched together 5 runs to grab 8-6 win. Ryan Schildroth had 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI's in this exciting win.

...Cuba HS erupted for 5 runs in the 8th inning to knock off St James 7-2. Cuba's bats silent most of the game woke up in the 8th and finished outhitting the Tigers 10-3 for the game.

....Priory pounded out 15 hits but it wasn't enough as the Rebels fell to Clayton 7-6 in first round District action.

RALLY TIME...

...Neosho (10-9) trailed 9-3 to E. Newton(4-7) . The Tigers plated 4 runs in 6th and 2 more in the 7th to send it into extra innings.  With the BIG MO on their side of the field, Neosho scored another in the 8th to walk off with the victory.
