WOW...the offensive numbers were really being crunched on Friday. Many of these terrific games were enjoyed by players whose team fell to the opponent. That might make it even more remarkable! This seems to me to be the trend that we Americans enjoy....numbers, yards, points, passes, TD's galore!

Some big number men...Rob Standard (Chaminade) rang up 325 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns but the Flyers lost in the last second to SLUH. Details later in the "winning by a foot" section.

Devin St. Clair of Joplin (6-1) was a sizzling 24 of 32,for 357yards as the Eagles catapulted to a 31-zip lead and then coasted to a 45-28 win over the Lebanon Yellowjackets(5-2). Joplin clinched a tie in the Ozark Conference with the win.

Joe Plassmeyer tossed the ball all around the park as he threw 47 passes (23 of 47) for 316 yards and 2 TD's. It scared the Lafayette Lancers (6-1) no doubt but it wasn't quite enough as Lafayette won 21-18. The Lancers jumped ahead 21-3 by half but the gun-slinging Plassmeyer brought the Tigers close to their 1st win with his marksmanship in the 2nd half.

Henry Handley only carried the ball 13 times in the St. Marys (Colgon) win over Sherwood 35-19 but those 13 carries were something. Handley set a school record for registering  267 rushing yards--yes...that's 20+ yards per carry!! The win breaks the 5 year winning streak of the Marksman against the Panthers and also awards the conference title to St Marys through some tie-breaking regulations.

The combination of Dalton Hewitt and James Gladstone was in high gear for the Vianney Golden Griffins passing game. Hewitt chalked up 265 yards, 3 TD passes in a15 of 25 passing performance. Gladstone hauled in 12 passes for 206 yards. Despite those brilliant numbers...it wasn't the biggest of the night on this field. Rod Alton (CBC) carried the ball 45 times for 432 yards, 5 scores as the Cadets outscored the Griffins 43-29 in MCC conference play. This is the 6th highest rushing total recorded in MO High School football competition. More heroics ?  bryan@prepcasts.com

Win without the offense scoring a TD?  Well..the Jackson Indians(3-4) picked up two fumbles and took them back for the distance in their 16-6 victory over Poplar Bluff (4-3). Other than the Fumble Recovery TD's an early Field Goal was all the scoring for the Indians.

Any other strange wins this week? bryan@prepcasts.com

Biggest upset.....

1a) Ritenour Huskies (4-3) shutout the Haz East Spartans (4-3) 28-0 in a Suburban North contest. Many pre-season polls had the Spartans rolling as state contenders per usual but times have changed up North .. that is, Suburban North.  Ritenour now arrives on the already crowded district party scene that involves Lindbergh, Mehlville and SLUH. What a great district !!

1b) DeSmet(5-2) knocks Hazelwood West from the unbeaten ranks 29-3 as they score 22 unanswered points in the last quarter. Some may not view this as an upset since the Spartans are very strong but knocking ANYONE from the unbeaten list in week 7merits that award from me.  More upsets? bryan@prepcasts.com

Winning by a foot.....no... the goal line wasn't  crossed by 12 inches...it was the skill, poise under pressure and winning field goals that we saw this week.  As time expired, Joe Schrick booted the winner through the uprights from 42 yards away as SLUH rallied after Chaminade scored at the 25.9 second mark to take a 32-30 lead. After the KO, SLUH had 2 quick completions and turned it over to Schrick for his heroics. Boom....straight through and it was a 33-32 win for the Junior Bills.

Nil Abrahams was the hero at Carl Junction. After the Bulldogs (6-1)moved down the field against Cassville (5-2)very late in the game, Abrahams was called in to boot the 20 yard winning field goal with only 1:16 showing on the clock. He was true to form and Carl Junction won 23-22 in a Big 8 Conference game.

Wonder what he really was thinking.... Ft Zumwalt West Coach Paul Day had to be thinking of a million different thoughts when he noticed his star QB, TJ Moe woozy late in the first half in the Jaguars game against Holt.  What do you think....Moe is a superstar....how often do they come along? His teams starts district next week? How prepared is that #2 QB?  Man.....What do you think his thoughts covered?  Let me know bryan@prepcasts.com By the way, Moe returned (seemingly OK) to lead the Jags past Holt 51-24.
