Shootouts, tournaments…basketball excitement elevates this week…
…in the Blue Springs Tournament, Rockhurst (4-0) converted 23 of 23 free throws on way to their 63-58 victory over the Truman Patriots (4-1). Connor Teahan dropped in a game high 31 points.
…the St Louis Shootout (the replays of all games may be heard on www.prepcasts.com) saw the St Charles West Warriors (5-0) trounce Hoover (Calif) 66-50 as Kramer Soderberg (son of SLU coach) scored 30 points. McCluer North (#1 St Louis Post) edged Pickneyville 51-47. Pickneyville brought the largest contingent of fans to the Scott Trade Center and saw a great game. The shocker of the night saw nationally ranked DeMatha (#3 in USA) fell to Decatur Christian 65-63. Both Georgetown recruits were unavailable to DeMatha during this contest.
…Webster Groves used a balanced scoring attack (4 players in double digits) to win the Statesman Classic over Ft Zumwalt West 61-44. An early morning workout for the WG post players paid dividends as Adam Mallette and Zach Redel led a strong inside game.
…Yvonne Anderson led the Hickman Girls to McDonald Tournament championship by scoring 94 points during tournament play. The Kewpies pressured Notre Dame de Sion in the title tilt and won 64-43. Anderson, daughter of Mizzou head Coach Mike Anderson, led all scoring with 34 points.
…In the oldest tourney in the State—Monroe City Tournament—the S.Shelby Lady Birds upended the Mark Twain Lady Tigers 47-35. S.Shelby’s stifling zone defense put the clamps on the high scoring Lady Tigers.
…Dan Rolfes of Incarnate Word (7-1)saw his Red Knights walk off with the prestigious Fr Smith Arkansas championship trophy. After competing in Quincy tournament to open the season, many observers feel that the 07 edition may be better than the State championship team of 2006 !
…Fredericktown (4-0) bested the St James Lady Tigers 51-39 to win the Potosi Tournament. St James early surge was slowed down by Fredericktown.
