Some emerging stars of 06-07 season…clutch FT shooting….tournament championships…as 06 turns into 07 basketball heats up….
Stars shining in December….
…Bolivar’s Casey Garrison led the Lady Liberators to a stunning 62-31 upset over the #1 ranked Republic Tigers as she scored 38 points including 19 of 22 from the charity stripe. Garrison scored 27 points earlier in the week as she has pushed the Liberators into state prominence.
…In more girls action, Whitney Ebie of Exeter (6-0) dropped in 35 as Exeter down 22-7 at one point in 1st half, knocked off a talented McAuley team 51-49 in another thriller.
…Miraide Vaughn was the star, not by scoring but by blocking a shot with 16 ticks left, to ensure the Lady Seneca Indians 51-50 victory over the Lamar Tigers.
…Katie Bond of the defending State Champions, Lady Ozark Tigers, has led the way. This versatile player can post up, swing out to the wing or handle pressure as a ball handler. The Tigers have their sites set on Mizzou Arena again.
Games for the record books….
…Glendale Falcons boys program notched their 800th victory with a 72-66 win over Springfield Central. Spud Harbour popped in 30 points in this winning effort.
…Carl Junction boys won their 2nd consecutive Carthage tournament with a 66-50 win over the Nevada Tigers. Paden Bennett scored 27 points to lead CJ to the win.
Cool as Ice from the Line….
…the cream of the Frisco League—Dixon Bulldogs knocked down 27 of 32 FT, including 9 of 10 in final quarter, to hold off the determined Lebanon Yellowjackets 79-69.
…Blair Oaks Falcons turned the tables on Eugene Eagles by wiping out a defeat 3 weeks ago and won an exciting 69-67 win. Daniel Anderson was 13-16 from the line and 6 of 6 in the 4th as he dropped in 29 points to lead the way for the 6-1 Falcons.
…Macon Lady Tigers shot 10 of 16 in the final quarter to edge the Cameron Tigers 38-35 on the road. Emily Rudkin carried the Macon offense with 17 points.
Best games of the week….
…Boonville Lady Pirates (8-2) down by a dozen points with just 1:30 left in the 3rd quarter, rallied to down Harrisburg 45-43.
…Webb City Cardinals also came-from-behind to pull out a 55-47 win in OT over Ft Scott. The Cardinals trailed 38-30 only 2:30 remaining in the game.
..Ray-Pec Panthers (4-4) upset the ranked Truman Patriots 70-64 using a early surge and hung on to win. Foul trouble plagued the Panthers late but Truman was unable to pull off the rally.
