A great week of weather permitted most teams to play heavy schedules this week. Some interesting development and a wrap up on Easter weekend tournaments
Cape Central went 4-1 in Easter weekend tourney in DeSoto County,Mississippi. Ace Brad LaBruyere beat th #6 ranked MS team (Oxford) in one game. In another Central rallied from a 10-7 deficit in the 7th with 7 consecutive hits and won 14-12.
Tony Perkins has his Howell Vikings on the prowl again. Having now won 10 consecutive games, the Vikings won 4 of those games in the 10th annual Howell Classic to win the championship. Hear the replay of championship game on www.prepcasts.com.
Is Sandy Koufax & Don Drysdale back again? Not exactly but Hillcrest (Springfield) has Blake Wixson (RHP 4-0, 1.56 ERA, 42 K, 9 BB) and Chris Barratt (LHP, 4-0, 2.18 ERA, 42 K, 5 BB) with their own R-L punch. Unlike the Dodgers of the 60’s, this team CAN hit! Clay Potner .405, Tyler Wright .400 are the leaders. The Hornets (12-1) were knocked from the unbeaten ranks on Saturday as they fell to the Lindbergh Flyers 6-2
Chaminade (11-5) outlasted St Marys 3-2 in 10 innings on Monday. SM lost another 10 inning game on Friday 7-5 to the Affton Cougars. The Dragons had the longest games of the week.
Trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of 7th to the Russellville Indians, the Fatima Comets (8-3) snatched a victory as JT Stegeman blasted a grand salami and the Comets won 8-6!
It’s not over til its over - thank You Yogi! With 2 out, no one on base in bottom of 7 in a scoreless dual, the Wright City Wildcats (8-2) used a single, SB and an error to squeak out a 1-0 thriller over the N.Calloway Thunderbirds (7-3).
Extra inning action—Tyler Adams drove home the winner for Monroe City (5-3) over S.Shelby (7-4) in the 8th inning. The Panthers were behind entering the 7th but pushed across a run to tie the game.
Hillsboro Hawks Kyle Byrd threw a 4 hitter and beat St Genevieve (5-3) 2-1 in a great non-conference pitching battle this week.
Covington(TN) pitcher, Gunter, Delashmit, saw the bases get loaded in the bottom of 7th against the Marquette Mustangs as his team held a slim 2-1 lead. Delashmit struck out the final two batters! Hear the entire replay of this great game on www.prepcasts.com.
#12 ranked PK West Longhorns had to fight off 3 rallies by the determined Webster Statesman and held on to win a wild 10-9 game with a strange ending. Hear this game also on www.prepcasts.com
The Wildest game of the Week: Whitfield Warriors (9-3) trailed Union 9-3 after 3. A huge 9 running inning propelled the Warriors to a 13-8 lead. Union rallied with 3 runs in the 6th and 2 runs in 7th to tie the game at 14. Whitfield plated 3 runs in the 8th inning to win this 17-14 slugfest.
