This
past weekend at the fabulous RecPlex sports facility, the STATE swimming
championships were held. From the stands, some thoughts..
….State Champion, Rockhurst, demonstrated the power of depth. No individual
championships but plenty of qualifiers and points in every event coupled
with strong relay teams was the ticket for the Hawklets to walk into the
STATE Championship ring!
…Blue Springs broke the state record on Friday and then again on Saturday
in the 400 Freestyle relay. They also won the 200 Freestyle Relay. It was
so impressive!
…great athletes compete in the swimming finals! On the winners stand,
these athletes look chiseled!
…best, worst, funniest, grossest, I don’t know.. anyway, I saw
this shirt that made me laugh-what do you think? “I beat millions
of swimmers before I was born”
With
that, let’s move to basketball….
How about this stat! The Meadow Heights Panthers established a new MSHSAA
record, and possibly a National record, by draining 36 3-point baskets in
a 131-66 victory over the Marquard Tigers! Four different Panthers scored
five or more three balls during this wild game. Meadow Heights set the record
two years ago at 26 treys in a game!
You
win games in all different ways, here’s a sampling…..
… fast starts salted away the game early in these girls games—
Rolla was all over Camdenton, 29-2 after 1 quarter; final: Rolla 69 Camdenton
17
Branson Lady Pirates shut out Reed Springs Wolves 23-0 for the entire 1st
period; final score – Branson 50 Reed Springs 25
…free throws won this girls game…Whitney Wright hit both FT
to tie the game for the Lady Zizzers of West Plains against the Waynesville
Tigers 41-41 with 0:36 seconds. IN the OT, Sammi Renfro won the game by
downing both charity tosses with 0:03 ticks to give West Plains the exciting
48-46 upset win over Waynesville.
…..coming from behind in the 4th quarter… Grandview trailed
ST Vincent 40-36 at the end of 3 quarters. Going on a 24-10 run in the final
quarter, Grandview walked away with a 60-50 win!
…upsets…North County Raiders upset the Farmington Knights providing
the Ste. Genevieve Dragons with a golden opportunity to win the Mineral
Area Activites Association Conference. Instead, Park Hills Central edged
the Dragons 70-68 to throw everything topsy-turvy.
Personal Achievements of note this week…
.... Abby Spieler, California Lady Pintos, notched her 154th 3 pointer for
school record
….Morgan Hickey, Blue Eye Lady Bulldogs, crossed the 1000 point plateau
in 65-34 victory over the Ava Lady Bears
